The Way of the Cross.

Jesus is Risen!

With these joyful words, the 7th grade students of ‘Katoken’ (Catholic Study Club) ended the play  about Jesus’  death and resurrection, The Way of the Cross.  They spent the year studying the bible passages in all four Gospels about this event, having  split into four groups to compose the script, each taking a separate scene, the Last Supper, the Trial, the Way of the Cross, and the Resurrection. They selected such famous scenes as Peter’s denial, Judas’ betrayal and remorse, and of course the intense interrogation by the high priest and by Pilot.  They also included the touching scenes when Jesus spoke to his mother and disciple from the cross, and when he surprised his Apostles after his Resurrection.

The performance was the climax of the year`s activities together.  It was a serious study of a key part of Catholic history.  Working together, the students created a play that can be used again and again.

Sports Festival!! Part II

The sports festival was held on September 26th. Today, we tell you the performance of the 1st year students in the senior high school.

They danced “Ryukyu Dance”.

“Ryukyu” means Okinawa. They were dressed in Yukata, a Japanese traditional costume. When we watched them from our seats, their Yukata were colorful and beautiful.

Of course, their dance was wonderful!

Sports Festival!! Part I

We held a sports festival on September 26th.

Second-year senior high school students’ activities were “a tug of war” and “a costume parade”. They had a tug of war in the morning. Two teams pulled hard against each other with a rope. Then, the yellow team won a close game with the white team.

Next, they had a costume parade in the afternoon. The contents of performance were very exciting and easy to understand. The appearance of various costumes was really attractive, too. The performance was wonderful!

We made a happy memory.

Drama Club

We are the drama club of junior high school. There are seventeen members in our club. We usually practice on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, but we practice every day just before we put on a play.

At the school festival, which was held at the end of May, we put on a comedy.

And we take part in a contest in summer every year.

By the way, last year we did a skit for improvement of students’ manners with SEIYUUKAI.

We express our thought through our play.

Catholic Club

Hello!

We are the members of the Catholic Club.

The High School and Junior High School members meet every week on Friday.

We always read the Bible to understand it more deeply.

At Christmas we have a Mass and a Nativity play.

Last year we made a Japanese card game with Bible passages and played together.

In the card game we selected our favorite passages and also drew pictures.

We also sing hymns at school events and play the tone chimes at the Christmas play.

We made a video of ourselves practicing with tone chimes and showed it at a class assembly.

Thank you.

String orchestra

Hello!

We are members of the string orchestra.

What is the string orchestra?

I think some people have never heard of it.

It is made up of violins, violas, cellos and contrabass : the four stringed instruments.

Most of the club members are beginners, although they will be able to play anything after one year with the friendly guidance of the seniors.

We, the 35 junior high school students, are working with the high school students.

In May in the school festival, we were a great success playing film music and classical music, including music from STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES.

The first-year junior high school students who just joined our club in April, made their stage debut as a toy corps, such as playing the cuckoo whistle, water whistle and the triangle.

They played together with the other students.

On September 4th, we (The Student Council) went to the Peace Memorial Park to guide some elementary school students from Tokyo. They visited Hiroshima on a school trip. We participated in the memorial ceremony and prayed for the victims with them.

We went to the Peace Memorial Museum during the summer vacation to study about Atomic Bomb in more detail. Guiding in the Peace Memorial Museum was very good not only for the students from Tokyo but also for us.

It’s impossible for a child like me to end wars by myself. However, if many children learn about the wars that happened in the past, we somehow will be able to prevent wars from happening again. We want to expand the circle of peace.

(the Second Year Students at Junior High School)

I) On may 12th, We began to prepare for the annual school trip to Mt.Daisen for second year junior high school students.

We wanted to enjoy the school trip to Mt.Daisen as result of good preparation in advance!

The first step was deciding what each student’s “Kakari” would be. After we decided on our Kakari, the next step was to have meetings where the Kakari confirmed the job of each member.

“Kakari”

“Kakari” is a Japanese word whose meaning changes depending on how it is used.

If you are the “English Kakari” for your homeroom, you perform tasks for the English teachers, such as collecting notebooks from the students and carrying messages from the teacher to the students, for example, the pages in the textbook that the students must review before they take a test.

If you are the “recreation Kakari” for a school trip, you plan and oversee recreational activities such as map reading, quiz games, and so on.

In short, your kakari is your area of responsibility.

II) We began to make flags to use at the top of Mt.Daisen.

Everyone brought different things to put on the flag and sewed them on the flag.

We wrote words on the flag, too.

Each group was going to bring its flag to the top of Mt.Daisen and take pictures with it.

We wanted the flags to be something we were going to be satisfied with.

Enjoying Games

(the Second Year Students at Junior High School)

I became a member of a new class two months ago.

I haven’t got used to this class yet, but the other day my class decided to play dodgeball and “KEIDORO” as a class activity.

“KEIDORO” is a kind of game, “KEI” means a policeman and “DORO” means a thief, and KEI runs after DORO to arrest him.

In playing dodge ball, there were some classmates who didn’t throw the ball so often, and so those who are good at dodge ball tried to give the ball to them, calling their name.

That’s how we became good friends.

けいどろ1

In playing KEIDORO, the DORO helped each other to get away from the KEI.

If someone was arrested by the KEI, someone would help them and they could say ”Thank you” to each other.

This class activity became very good for us.

けいどろ2 けいどろ3

I hope to be getting happier and happier in class!

Learning Japanese Culture

(the Second Year Students at Junior High School)

Zazen

We have studied Zazen since we were first year students.

It was hard to cross our legs last year, but this year we were able to concentrate on Zazen.

坐禅

Kimono

We learned how to wear kimono. It was the first time for us to tie an obi so it was difficult.

We were happy when we were able to tie it.

We want to remember so we can do it the next time.

着付け

Sadou

We made Matcha with a Fukusa.

It was difficult the first time.

When other people would drink the tea which I made, I made it carefully in order for them to say, “Oh, very delicious.”
