Our school festival is going to start tomorrow.

Before that, President Obama is coming to Hiroshima.

This is a major historical event!

We’re present at the historic moment.

We’re looking forward to what he says.

The preparation for the school festival is making steady progress.

On the days of school festival, each student has a job such as a receptionist, waitress, salesclerk of ice cream and juice, a garbage collector and so on.

Today we checked what we are going to do.

On April 26th, Sr. Teresita, who is the head of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur visited.

We had a whole-school assembly to welcome her.

The first year and the third year students welcomed her.

They sang ‘Amazing Grace.’

They gave her a lei which was made of folded paper cranes.

After that, she joined the world history class and she gave messages to the third year high school students.

On May 4th, I went to the 40th Hiroshima Flower Festival.

The subject of the festival was “The 40th year of joining the future with Flowers and Smiles.”

The Hiroshima Flower Festival (FF) is called “Festival of Movement” full of vitality, while the Peace Memorial ceremony, which is held on August 6th and we pray for the victims of the atomic bombing, is called “Ceremony of Silence.”

The FF is crowded with a lot of people every year.

In the evening, the candles with messages for lasting peace, and the big folded paper cranes were exhibited.

We learned about the tragedy of wars and the dignity of peace through Peace Studies classes at school.
However, after going back to the daily life, many people, including me forget about what we learned.
So, I think it’s necessary for us to recognize again the importance of protecting peace.

Though this festival keeps in mind the word of “Peace,” we can enjoy various events and also we can “Learn” and “Play,” so I think it’s a wonderful event which a wide range of ages can enjoy.
I’d like many people from all over the world to come and enjoy it!

The FF has had “Let’s share the excellence and dignity of living peacefully with all of the participants” as its slogan since the first year.
I hope it’ll continue permanently.

On August 6th, “PEACE CANDLES” which many candles are displayed around the Atomic Bomb Dome and pray for the victims of the wars, will be carried out.

How about visiting the Peace Memorial Park where is full of prayers and hope for world peace on August 6th?

The second year students in our senior high school went on an excursion to Mominoki Forest Park in the north part of Hiroshima Prefecture on April 28th.

It took us 90 minutes to get to the park.

We had a barbecue and shared snacks with friends.

Each class had its own activity.

We enjoyed it!

It was a very wonderful time, because we could enjoy it with friends.

The third grade students of high school went on the last excursion in the high school days.

It was kind of inevitable for us, rain bringers, it’s been raining on and off all day.
But actually, we had been disappointed at the weather forecast of the rain and prayed it would be sunny!

Our destination was an amusement park which is at the east side of Hiroshima prefecture.

We got the all-access tickets and tried every rides including roller coasters, carousel, swing rides and pendulum rides.

We really enjoyed the rides, feeling like we returned to a child.

Getting wet by the rain was even fun!

The park is also famous for its recreation of 1960s street in Japan.
We can eat food and try some games which had been popular at that time especially among children.

Though we’ve never lived in the time, in which our grandparents were elementary school students, we felt like experience it.

The last excursion in high school have been the best one I think.

Our new leaders have been elected.

The former and new leaders had a speech for all the students.

New leaders are very excited to promote our school.

We are looking forward to join their activities.

I’m full of motivation to be elected the student council president.
We in the school government will promote activities such as international exchange, or manner- improvement. I’ll do my best as the leader of our school, having contact with other committees and with our junior high school!!

“Ninomiya,” the mascot character of the Library Committee, was taken up by the local newspaper.

The name “Ninomiya” is taken from the famous Japanese person Ninomiya Kinjiro.

He was a symbol of thrift and diligence.

She was selected by a vote from the candidates which many students thought about, because the mascot has the qualities of Ninomiya Kinjiro.

The Library Committee carries out many programs so that lots of students learn the fun of reading.

There are a lot of interesting books, so you should visit there!

I’m sure you will be glad you did!!

On March 18th, Isabella came to Hiroshima.
She is the president of our sister school in Massachusetts, USA.
We introduced our city and school to Bella.

Isabella represented the United States at the G7 Youth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Hiroshima.
She took part in a series of panel discussions focusing on the bombing of Hiroshima during World War II and the current status of world peace.

We were very happy to meet her!

She ate some Japanese dishes and tried using chopsticks.

It seemed to be difficult, but she could use it very well.

We got a lot of awesome souvenirs from her!
We are extremely happy!!

4 students and 1 teacher from the Philippines came to our school.
Their school is Ateneo de Naga High School.
There was a welcome party during noon recess.

They take some classes and go the school excursion with the first year students at senior high school.
They introduced themselves in Japanese in front of all the students of the school.

We hope that they will have a brilliant time here at our school.
