Hello. I’m a member of a school sports festival committee. Junior high school students had activities in their grades on September 22nd, and high school students on September 24th. It was held in a different way than usual, but I think all students were able to enjoy it. We, the second year of high school, tug of war. Strategy, preparation, practice … I think every class has become more united. I realized once again that it is interesting for everyone to work hard toward one thing.

In addition, we, a school sports festival committee, have been preparing for these two days for about half a year. I couldn’t do it under the name of a school sports festival, but I think I was able to demonstrate what we had prepared so far. Most of the things were difficult, but when it was over, it was a fun and quick time. I am grateful to my friends who have prepared so far together. I hope we can do it in the form of a school sports festival next year.

This year’s sports festival was divided into separate grades. Last year, the festival could not be held due to Corona virus, so I was happy it was held this year. Do you know competitive karuta? It’s that can be enjoyed everyone from children too the elderly as they fight over 50cards. And it’s called “fighting on tatami” because the players need to be both physically and mentally strong. This time, I’d like to introduce you to the Classical Literature Research club, where the members play competitive karuta. The Classical Literature Research club is called “koteken” by the students. They gather to practice karuta three times a week and have a morning practice, too.

To briefly explain the rules, players first remember the position of fifty cards for only fifteen minutes. Then the games starts. As soon as the introductory part of the poem is read by the reciter, the players try to take the card that matches with the poem read by the reciter.

Recently, I’ve been practicing for a national karuta tournament. I need a lot of practice, but I’ll be very happy if I can get the cards quickly.

In the Seishin’s library, you can find a series of manga called “Chihayafuru.” The story is about three children who deepen their bond through competitive karuta. “Chihayafuru” has also been made into a movie.

From June 2^nd，the teacher trainees came to school for three weeks. Partly because they were our seniors who graduated from Seishin, I enjoyed talking with them. Music and biology were taught by trainees.

I was particularly impressed with the biology class. It was very easy to understand because she gave me an ecosystem lesson using slides.

On the day the apprentice teacher left, we wrote a message on colored paper and handed it to her in our class. We were happy to have her feel pleased. We were told that some of the things the trainees made when they were students are still here, for example, things they made in club activities. We also want to do our best so that we can leave something for our juniors.
